The Most Popular Movies About Casino

Casinos like Vulkan Vegas are full of action, most especially if the casino is land-based. From wins to fights to cheating — the casino industry has it all. It is no wonder that the casino is also a common theme and setting in movies.

What are the best movies about casinos? While there are hundreds of them, we drilled them down to the few best ones.

1. Rain Man (1988)

This movie stars one of the most popular stars of all time — Tom Cruise. The other star is Dustin Hoffman.

The story revolves around Charlie Babbitt, a dealer of collectible items such as questionable cars. He has to deliver some cars to his buyers who already made a down payment. The problem is that the EPA is holding the cars for release because they failed the tests.

Then, Charlie meets an elder brother, Raymond (played by Dustin), whom he’s never seen in his life. Raymond has savant syndrome. When Charlie finds out, he teaches Raymond to play blackjack.

Overall, this is a story between brothers and how casinos treat their clients. Here, the casino asked Tom and Dustin to walk away, but not after they won $86,000.

2. 21 (2008)

21 is a movie based on a real story. In it, a professor teaches a group of intelligent college students how to count cards at blackjack. They succeed and enjoy a lavish lifestyle.

This scheme goes haywire, making the leading character, Ben, lose his interest in studying engineering at MIT.

As always, money changes people. Here, the people who used to be friends backstab each other. In the end, they continue counting cards and making money.

‘21’ is a movie about passion, friendship, and betrayal. People’s egos changed as they earned more money, causing one, their professor, to rat on the team to a Las Vegas casino security officer.

3. Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

Ocean’s Eleven is a tale of a heist where Danny Ocean, the leading character, violates his parole to meet a friend somewhere to discuss a heist. They meet other criminals, and they create a devious plan to rob three casinos at the same time.

There is a total of 11 people involved in the heist, which, in the end, they executed successfully. What made the movie such a hit was how the group explained how they would execute the robbery.

Add to that the romantic affair between two characters, and you have a perfect recipe for a good movie about gambling. The film was so successful that it spawned Ocean’s 12 and Ocean’s 13, which make up a trilogy. Later on, they made Ocean’s 8, also a heist movie, but this time featuring an all-female lead cast.

4. Rounders (1998)

This is a movie about a gambler who is in a bad situation. He has already given up gambling, but a situation compelled him to go back to playing poker to raise money. The term rounder refers to a gambler who goes from one casino to another to gamble, particularly in high-stakes games.

The conflict arises when a Russian mobster gets involved. The protagonist loses his bankroll, which he owes. In the end, the protagonist, played by Matt Damon, wins a lot of money and settles his debts, including those that are not his.

He decided to leave his girlfriend and also forget about law school. Instead, he went to join the World Series of Poker.

5. Casino (1995)

Who does not love Robert de Niro? As always, this is an epic film from one of the most renowned moviemakers of all time – Martin Scorsese.

The plot is set in the 1970s in Las Vegas. Robert de Niro plays the role of Ace, a low-level mobster. He gets tapped by his boss to head a casino called the Tangiers. While Ace was successful at managing it at first.

However, he has beef with several people like his enforcer, his ex-wife, and his ex-wife’s ex. There are also a handful of corrupt politicians who can put his life in danger.

The story essentially tells how the mob lost its power and how big corporations took over the casino industry. Eventually, Ace retires to San Diego, where he continues to live a life of gambling. In the end, he was back to his old job as a handicapper for the mob.

The casino world is rife with action and emotion. It is why movie makers love to make films about casinos. The next thing to do now is watch these movies and try to draw real-life scenarios that can happen to you. Then, you can try playing games in the comfort of your home — no need to go to a land-based casino. All you need to do is go to Vulkan Vegas online and play!
