5 Indoor Activities for Couples During Quarantine

indoor activities

It's been four months since we began living in the "new normal" created by COVID-19. As time ticks by with us mostly stuck in our homes, we've been forced to explore new ways to have fun inside.

Our choices of activities are largely dependent on who we are quarantined with—if anyone. Everybody's situation is different, but some of us have been fortunate enough to be quarantined with a significant other. Unfortunately, that doesn't always make it easier to find fun things to do.

The good news is that we're here to help. We'll talk about some of our favorite indoor activities for couples in the paragraphs below.

1. Board and Card Games

It seems like board games and card games have seen a new renaissance in the past decade or so. There could be any number of reasons for this. One of the reasons for this is that games have grown far beyond the handful of classics our parents remember.

The rise of online video has brought us many users who enjoy board games in addition to videogames. Increased interest in board games has spurred or perhaps been spurred by innovations in the field.

Regardless of why these games have become so popular, the renewed interest has resulted in a whole host of games that you and your significant other can enjoy. Genre isn't an issue, either, because there are games for all of them.

2. Puzzles

If you're not fond of board games, but still want something challenging to do together, there's always puzzles. The great thing about puzzles is that there's something for everyone.

The world's largest puzzle has over 40,000 pieces, while the smallest have ten or fewer. Whether you're a puzzle novice, a casual hobbyist, or a guru, you can find the right puzzle for you.

Unlike most board games, puzzles are cooperative, so you don't have to worry about fighting quite as much. If you're calm under pressure, you should have no trouble at all.

The word "puzzle" can even be loosely interpreted if you wish. You can create massive 3D puzzles, take turns trying to solve a Rubik's cube, or build something epic out of Lego blocks, perhaps even a whole town.

3. Spa Day

The local spa may be the most relaxing place you've ever been to. It can also be one of the most expensive.

Thankfully, there are ways to simulate a spa day without breaking the bank, and this quarantine gives you the perfect opportunity to do so. Granted, you won't be able to make your own version of every spa treatment, but you don't need to.

You won't be able to do seaweed wraps or hot stone treatments, but those are fairly niche, and probably don't appeal to as many people as one might think.

What you can do is throw on your robes and run a bubble bath for two. If you have an advanced tub with water jets, you can make it even more like a spa.

If you run the water hot enough, you can make your own steam room. It's best to turn the smoke detectors off beforehand because steam can trigger them. After that, you can apply facials and give each other massages.

The intimacy offered by a DIY spa day makes it one of the best indoor activities for couples.

4. Plan a Vacation

While we can't go on any exotic vacations right now, we can still plan them. Where have you always wanted to go? Why do you want to go there?

Don't let issues like money or work availability stop you. This is your dream vacation, so nothing is off the table. Feel free to give yourself some inspiration by looking up attractions online, and maybe taking a virtual tour of the places you want to go.

You can spend time learning about the places you want to visit, or by competing to see who can come up with the best vacation on a budget.

5. Have a Movie Night

Most of us love movies, or at least some movies. Perhaps we have a favorite genre or our ideal way to watch.

Do you like watching old slasher movies and laughing at how badly the effects have aged? How about old sci-fi movies? Maybe you're the romantic type and want to see movies about love with someone you love.

If you want, you could throw on an old B-movie and add your commentary.

If you don't want to watch movies, you can try writing your own. Focus on your favorite genre.

What are some familiar tropes? Why are they there? When should you utilize them, and what are some ways to dodge or subvert them?

If you need some help, you can learn from the best with Masterclass.

What is Masterclass? Masterclass is a streaming service that offers lessons taught by experts in the field. The service costs about $15 per month, which grants you access to all the classes they offer.

The advice from experts and the insight you gain into the things you love more than makes up for the cost.
