6 Tips to Feeding your Toddler

The transition from your infant eating baby food to more solid foods can be a tricky one to navigate, especially if you are a first-time parent. There may be a little kicking and fussing to deal with, but here are some simple tips to help feed your toddler.

1. Get creative

Mealtime doesn’t need to be so black and white. There are several creative ways to make your toddler’s meals a lot more fun, festive, and colourful. For example, there are so many toddler lunch ideas that encourage your little one to have a variety of foods and a healthy, balanced meal. New foods can be introduced such as proteins, carbs, and veg to allow your toddler to get all the nutrients they need while enjoying a plate full of vibrant goodness.

2. Kick the day off with some real food

Deemed as the most important meal of the day, breakfast is one of the simplest meals for feeding your toddler. It can involve very minimal cooking and can still be very nutritious. Foods such as whole grain bread with peanut butter, oatmeal, eggs, fruit and yogurt contain a lot of goodness and are extremely simple to prepare.

3. Pick foods that are easy to eat

Most toddlers love to eat with their hands so that they can hold their own food and feed themselves. There are so many healthy foods that can be cut up to be easily held by your toddler, such as red pepper strips, whole green beans, cut up bananas, roasted carrots, just to name a few.

4. Prepare dinners for the entire family

This is one of the most effective ways to feed your toddler well. Don’t just think of cooking something for your toddler to eat, but think of a meal that will suit the whole family. Toddlers are very susceptible to their surroundings, so when they see their parents or siblings enjoying their food, they are likely to enjoy it too.

5. Smoothies are a huge hit

It’s important to get the right balance between sweetness and bitterness when it comes to making a healthy and yummy smoothie for your little ones. Smoothies are a great way to pack some goodness into your kids’ diets that are simple to make and digest. Whether it’s a green smoothie packed with spinach, cucumber, and avocado, or a red berry blend, these delicious concoctions will be enjoyed by your hungry toddlers.

6. Be patient and keep the faith

According to the majority of kids’ studies, it takes a young child at least seven times to accept a new flavour. So instead of jumping to the conclusion that your little one doesn’t like a certain food, it may just be that they need to try it more often until their taste buds like it. Try your best to eat dinner as a family as often as you can so that your toddler can have enough tastes as often as possible. Just remember to be patient in the process and keep the faith that with time your toddler can grow to love the foods they once spat out!
